In uncertain times, determination and learning matter more than ever. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that Lycetts Insurance will sponsor the SCT Enterprise Award 2026, celebrating apprentices who drive success in the businesses they work for.

SCT is passionate about giving apprentices every opportunity for personal and professional development and supporting them and their employers in the process.

SCT established the ‘SCT Enterprise Award’ to:

  • Develop pride in achievement and commitment to learning, improvement and business success
  • Develop awareness of what makes an equestrian business successful
  • Recognise outstanding conduct in the workplace and in working with external clients and partners
  • Reward understanding of how to keep themselves and others safe and healthy, showing best practice in safety, behaviour and welfare

There is an essential need for effective equine business management, and apprentices can play a key role in this. The SCT Enterprise Award is highly prestigious, with the finalists displaying outstanding ingenuity, excellent understanding of business practices and great pride in helping their employers.

The judges of the SCT Enterprise Award - which have included former four times Olympic silver medallist and six times European gold medallist Ian Stark OBE; international showjumper and producer Morgan Kent of HK Horses; Ted Cadogan, Director of Operations, Chatsworth House; Martyn Johnson, Director of the Defender Burghley Horse Trials; David Evans, Course Designer for Blenheim International Horse Trials and Course Builder for the Beijing and Tokyo Olympic Games; and most recently Team GB World Championships rider and Hickstead Derby winner William Whitaker - are looking for entrants to have contributed to at least one of the following key criteria for the organisation they are employed by:

  • Promotion/communication
  • Management systems/procedures
  • Training and developing others
  • Finance - fundraising/sponsorship
  • Improving facilities / equipment / services

It is a great way for any SCT apprentice to improve their portfolio and help them meet the criteria for a Distinction in their Apprenticeship - and, of course, assist the business in which they work to survive and thrive. From 1.1.26 – 30.4.26 the nominated apprentices will plan, implement and evaluate the Business Plan actions and produce a short PowerPoint portfolio of evidence to be submitted to SCT demonstrating their contributions by 6.5.2026.

Three finalists will be selected by 18.5.2026 for the final judging, to be held at the Defender Bramham International Horse Trials on Friday 12 June 2026. The finalists will have a short interview and present their portfolio to the judge Anna Goodley, Director of Lycetts Insurance.

Anna says:

“Lycetts are delighted to support the Enterprise Award for Stubbing Court Training. It’s an honour to help recognize innovation in the equestrian industry, where forward thinking and efficient individuals can make such an impact on the success of a yard. This is an award that every SCT apprentice should strive to be nominated for, because it demonstrates where their presence has benefitted the yard they are employed on.’

The winner will receive a £150.00 cash prize very kindly sponsored by Lycetts and tickets for the day to Bramham International Horse Trials.
